Life is super hard. You have to manage money, cleaning your gosh darned house, relationships, your family, holidays, birthdays, work, making yourself look like a presentable human, and maybe hitting the gym every now and then. How does anyone manage to keep on top of all of this stuff? Well, we don’t know. But we’re about to find out if you have it all together. All you have to do is plan one trip to the grocery store. Grab your shopping cart, hit the aisles, and decide which food you need in your fridge for the next few days. Do you stock up on nutritious food that will last you through the week? Or are you more of an impulse buyer when you hit the grocery aisles?
We’ll look deep into your seemingly innocuous decisions and discover if you’ve got what it takes to keep your life together and be a true adult or if everything in your life is slowly but surely falling apart. Either way, we promise it will all be OK. Eventually. Someday.
Let's start our visit to the supermarket before we even enter the store. Have you planned your stop ahead of time?
- Of course! I checked the fridge to see what we need and have a set time I shop each week.
- I wrote a list of what I need.
- I remembered that we needed some things yesterday and planned the visit.
- Nope! It occurred to me last minute that I have no food at home.
When you walk in do you grab a shopping cart, a shopping basket, or nothing at all?
- I grab the cart. I do a good amount of shopping at once.
- I take a basket. I come to the store regularly so I don’t have to get too much.
- I grab a cart because I don’t know what I’ll end up getting.
- Nothing. I shouldn’t need much.
First stop is the vegetables! What do you get in this section?
- I’ve got a few veggies I want: lettuce, cucumber, potatoes.
- If I’m feeling ambitious I might get some peppers.
- Literally nothing.
- I spend most of my time here. Kale, asparagus, broccoli, so much to buy!
Someone in front of you is taking FOREVER at the butcher's counter. What do you do?
- I pull out my phone to wait and text my friends.
- I politely ask the butcher if there’s someone else available to help me.
- I wait, but I resent it.
- I give up and go somewhere else.
You're walking past the donuts and your tummy starts to rumble. What do you do?
- Those babies are calling my name, get over here.
- I try to let myself have a treat at the grocery store, so I grab one.
- I know they look tasty, but I’m trying to focus on healthy foods, so I keep walking.
- I snag a couple. Yum.
You make it past the donuts and are headed in to the main aisles. Do you know what order you're hitting them in?
- I have a general idea. I know what I need, so I’m going to just go from one side to another.
- Honestly I can’t remember where most stuff is in the grocery store. I’ll wander and hope.
- Yup, I always go in the same order for maximum efficiency.
- I know where my most common items are, but I might have to do some searching for a few things.
Frozen foods time! Do you stop here and what do you get?
- Ice cream and frozen pizza.
- Some prepped meals. It just saves time.
- Frozen veggies.
- I don’t get anything frozen.
You know you want a snack for this afternoon. Which one do you pick up?

You're moving towards the check out and your cart is pretty full. Do you choose self check out or go to the line with a cashier?
- Self check out. I hate humans.
- I go to the cashier. Too much for self check out.
- The cashier because coupons are easier there.
Time to pay up! How long does it take you to dig through your purse/wallet and find the correct payment?
- I’ve got it out along with my coupons before I hit the cashier.
- I spend five minutes digging through trash in my purse and dropping things before I find my wallet.
- For some reason I always end up fumbling when I’m at the register, but it’s not too bad.
- The normal amount of time? I take my money out of my wallet and use it.
Now you have to get all of this stuff out to your car. Describe this process as if you were the narrator of your own life.
- I try to stuff my purchases into a bag, which promptly rips out the bottom and spills things everywhere. I grab it all again and load myself up with bags, almost dropping everything again in the process. At this point, people are probably staring. I spend ten minutes stuffing things into my car and then drive away with half my groceries blocking the rear view. I almost die on the way home.
- I smile at the cashier and fill my canvas bags (which I brought from home), in exactly the prescribed manner (heavy and large at the bottom, light things on top). I easily lift them into my cart with my nicely muscled arms (I went to the gym this morning). My car trunk opens with a tap, and I’ve got the exact Tetris arrangement figured out to put my weekly groceries in the car. Some birds start singing as I sink into my car and whizz away with the wind in my hair.
- Seriously my trips to the grocery store are not this dramatic. I pack up my things and walk out.
Last question - how would you rate this quiz?
- I loved it!
- It was pretty okay.
- Not great…
