If you think the 2016 election was divisive, just think of how bad it was in 1860. The Civil War rocked our nation and divided people more than they had ever been divided before. Until now, maybe. The Civil War redefined our nation, changed history forever, and still affects the way human beings treat each other in this country. There is still a divide, albeit a less formal one, between the North and the South in terms of tradition and attitude, and all that stemmed from the Civil War. So, how many details do you remember about it? Not that you were alive during it, but you most definitely (I should hope) learned about the Civil War in high school. And it’s important to learn about it because if we don’t learn about our history, we are doomed to repeat it. Someone smart said that.
